What should I not say to my workers comp adjuster?
Every day, honest and hard-working people get injured on the job. Dealing with the insurance adjuster can be intimidating.
While workers’ compensation adjusters are often kind and generous people, they have a job to do. Their job is to pay out as little as possible on claims.
So what should you not say to a a workers’ comp adjuster? Here are a few general ideas.
Don’t get into the personal politics of your job and why you think certain people may be out to get you. The adjuster isn’t there to referee workplace drama.
Don’t let the adjuster make it sound like you never got better from a prior surgery. Often they will try to push the agenda that your injury isn’t new, but merely a continuation of prior problems. Be specific, if you remember, about the prior medical issues and how your current situation is different.
Don’t hide from the adjuster if you go back to work. You don’t get in trouble or lose your right to medical care if you get a new job. But you will get into serious trouble if you hide wages from the insurance while getting benefits.
