Three crucial questions: 1) Do you really handle workers' compensation cases (meaning workers' compensation administrative hearings before the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation) and not just third party civil claims against the person who caused my injuries? Many lawyers advertise for workers' compensation cases, but they do not actually help with the workers' compensation part of the case. They will only represent you in a case against the party who caused your injuries (not your employer). When you need help with your actual workers' compensation problems, they will tell you to go elsewhere. 2) Will I have direct access to my lawyer? Many law firms are large and staffed by a number of legal assistants, legal secretaries, and paralegals. You may not be able to talk to your lawyer unless you can get past the assistants. In my office, every client has my direct cell number to call or text me anytime for an update on their case.
