Just a quick survey of the "Workwell" network, which is the new certified healthcare network through Texas Mutual Insurance Company as of 2018.
This network is a successor to the previous Texas Star network, which still exists to cover claims prior to December 31, 2017.
The network information is publicly available at the Texasmutual.com website. This is where I obtained this information from a quick review. This illustrates how the insurance carriers are gaming the system and limiting healthcare access.
What access to specialists can you expect from the Workwell network? Search results from the website for the Workwell network show 1 “urologist” listed in San Antonio, not board certified. That doctor is a Concentra clinic physician who is a primary care physician and in my experience has never treated any of my clients for urological issues or diagnosed those conditions.
In this network there is no board certified urologist in San Antonio.
What about a neurosurgeon? The closest (not board certified) neurosurgeon is in Kyle. That is about 56 miles away from the center of San Antonio. There is only 1 board certified neurosurgeon listed for a San Antonio search result, and he is in Round Rock. That is four counties (Comal, Hays, Travis, Williamson) away. In total there are 4 listed, at multiple sites, and none in San Antonio or an adjacent county. The closest one is nearly an hour drive away.
The Workwell website lists nurse practitioners, hospitals, physical therapists, and physician assistants as treating doctors in search results. By law, none of these can serve as a treating doctor in a case.
All providers listed as treating doctor options are Texas Medclinic for the first 6 pages of search results. Each provider is listed at each location. For the first 6 pages of search results. On page 7 Concentra is listed even though it is actually the closest to the zip code entered. So the network website "games" the search results, directing employees to a particular chain of clinics over all other providers.
