If you are unable to obtain information on how to get workers' compensation treatment approval promptly, then seek medical care now through emergency providers. This is not legal advice-- it is common sense.
If you go to the ER immediately after the injury, it is likely that the insurance carrier will end up paying for the bill assuming that the injury is covered (just because an injury occurs at your job does not necessarily mean it will be covered-- there are exceptions). So you can generally feel safe going to the ER immediately after an accident or within a day or two of the accident for initial treatment.
But if you already have a treating doctor established to direct care for your workers' compensation claim, the insurance carrier may dispute liability for the bill, saying that you could have sought treatment through your treating doctor. If it is truly an emergency, then the insurance carrier should have to pay for it and it is generally very difficult for the ER to force you to pay.
